Matcha

Matcha is a finely powdered green tea made from the leaves of shade-grown tea plants. Because of its association with the Japanese tea ceremony, matcha has acquired an image of high culture and philosophical profundity. However, it is also commonly used as a flavoring, being added to ice creams, lattes and wagashi sweets. Matcha flavors vary between the three poles of bitter, sweet, and savory, but typically it has a mellow umami flavor, a strong aroma, and is vivid green in color. These teas have a smooth, rich, satisfying flavor and are perfect either whisked up with hot water or served in a sweet latte.

Sencha

Sencha is Japan’s most popular tea. Made from leaves rather than powder, it is greenish-gold in color with a sunny, energizing flavor and a bright aroma of cut grass. Its refreshing aroma and even balance of sweet, savory and astringent flavors makes it very easy to drink.

Gyokuro

Gyokuro is a type of high grade green tea that is grown under shade rather than in full sun. It is known for its complex flavor both mellow and rich with subtle notes of sweetness. Try Ippodo’s Kanro for your first sip of Gyokuro. Its full-bodied flavor is perfect for slowly sipping.
